Our Family History

As five generation families in the cattle business we understand the need for quality breeding stock. Starting back in the 1860's the Baca and Elkins families were part of the pioneering and ranching families of Texas The Baca family settled in Floatonia, Texas in 1860 after arriving in Galveston from Czechoslovakia where they had been farmers. They purchased a small ranch on, what is now, the Baca Loop outside of Flatonia, Texas. They were among the families in the area that raised cattle, many being of the early longhorn breed. Ron's parents left Texas in the 1940's to establish a new life in New Mexico.

The Elkins family settled in the Snyder, Texas area after coming west as early settlers in the 1800's where they also were involved in ranching. Several years later her grandfather Tom Elkins, his brother and parents decided to relocate to the Grants, New Mexico area. After spending several weeks on the trail with a small herd of cattle and 2 wagon loads of personal belongings, they arrived in the Bluewater area in 1917. They were able to homestead a 360-acre plot of land and lease some state and private land to start their ranching operation. Their ranches have now grown to be some of the largest in New Mexico with many of the decedents still as heavily involved in ranching as we are.

We have raised cattle and have been involved in the feeder cattle and cow calf business in one form or another our entire lives. We discovered the Texas Longhorn breed and decided to try our hand at raising world class longhorns about 5 years ago. We got our first Longhorns just for their looks and gentle traits. We now offer New Mexico Texas Longhorn beef and live cattle thru our operation. We always have cattle available for sale. To date, our herd has grown to be one that can compete on the national level. We are excited to be part of the Texas Longhorn family.
